What you'll receive

What happens when an employer raises a reference check on you.

When an employer raises a reference check, you receive an email with a link to a secure page. On that page you can:

  1. Review what the employer has requested and what information we collect.
  2. Consent or decline to have your referees contacted.
  3. Nominate your referees (up to ten).
  4. Track the progress and replace referees if needed.

What we collect

We collect your name, email, role and the details you provide about your referees — their names, work emails, employers and your relationship. We do not collect your date of birth, address, ID documents, criminal or health data.

What the report says about you

The employer receives one report. It sets out what was checked and what came back — not a score, and not an opinion of you.

  • Summary — a short verdict for each referee, in the report's own words.
  • Verification grid — each claim we could check about your employment, and whether the referee confirmed it, disagreed with it, or was not able to say.
  • Referee insights — the referee's own answers, including whether they would employ you again.
  • Activity — when each referee was invited, reminded, and replied.

Where a referee never replies, the report records that as No response. It is not read as anything you or they said; it is the record that nothing came back, and it appears beside the referees who did reply.

Asking for a copy

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. A candidate can also ask for the report we hold about them.

Your privacy

Your data is retained for 3 months after the check closes, then deleted. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
